Assemblyman Kevin Jeffries will run for Riverside County supervisor in 2012, the lawmaker announced this morning. He is seeking the seat now held by Supervisor Bob Buster, who has represented the 1st District since 1992.
The district extends from Riverside to the county's southwest corner. It will beredrawn in the coming months to reflect population changes.
"As a 40-year resident of the First District, I believe that my experience as a small business owner, Volunteer Fire Captain, and tax fighter at the local and state level makes me uniquely qualified to serve on the Board of Supervisors," Jeffries said in a statement Monday.
Jeffries opened a campaign committee earlier this year. He will kick off his campaign April 7 but already has several high-profile endorsements.
"Kevin Jeffries has repeatedly demonstrated that he will work tirelessly on behalf of Riverside County. Kevin's open door policies, strong leadership and long standing community involvement will make him an outstanding County Supervisor," Riverside Mayor Ron Loveridge said in Monday's statement.
